Perched in the serene setting of Naihati, West Bengal, the Manorama Old Age Home overlooks the river and serves as a sanctuary for its elderly residents. Recognizing the cultural richness of Bengal and the need to create dignified spaces for senior living, MACS undertook a comprehensive redevelopment of the building, addressing both its exterior presence and interior functionality.
Redesign Philosophy
Without altering the core structure, the project redefined the old age home as a luxurious palace, emphasizing architectural elegance through classical colonial elements. This approach balanced restoration and renewal, ensuring the building’s cultural identity was elevated without compromising its functional integrity. The design celebrates dignity, permanence, and comfort, giving the facility a newfound architectural grandeur while remaining sensitive to the daily needs of its residents.
Interior Transformation
Inside, the redevelopment focused on user comfort, accessibility, and experience. The interior spaces were redesigned to be functional, warm, and engaging, responding to the everyday needs of the residents while uplifting the overall ambiance. The design intent was to elevate quality of life through thoughtful spatial planning, natural light integration, and material choices that inspire comfort and belonging.
The redevelopment of Manorama Old Age Home is more than a visual upgrade—it is a redefinition of space that combines cultural memory, architectural expression, and human-centered design. Landscaping
The redevelopment also extended to the outdoor environment, enhancing the arrival experience with carefully planned entrance landscaping on both sides. The approach integrates seating areas and planters, creating pockets that encourage moments of rest and social interaction. This layered landscaping strategy not only complements the colonial-inspired façade but also establishes a dignified and welcoming threshold for residents and visitors alike.
